The Theme for our Fall Program Brochure was “Breaking Ground,” focusing not only on the groundbreaking we did for the building of our new church, but also on breaking ground in our hearts and minds: uprooting those things that get in the way of living the life to which God calls us.

This Spring our theme is LAYING A FOUNDATION. Now that the ground for the new church has been broken, we are busily at work pouring concrete, erecting retaining walls, establishing steel supports. I’m so excited about the new church that I feel like a kid who can’t wait for Christmas! Yet, I understand that before those beautiful walls and towers can go up, we have to have a solid foundation. Without the foundation, the church will not stand!

In the Gospels, Jesus uses the image of building our “houses” on the foundation that is the Truth of Christ; He says that when we build on that foundation, no matter what winds and rains come, our house will stand firm. Isn’t this what we need most in our lives? A strong foundation; a solid grounding that holds firm in all the storms of life?

Scripture tells us that if we learn to depend on God, nothing can overwhelm or defeat us. How do we create this solid foundation? One step at a time: coming to know God and learning to trust God through Bible study, prayer, and life in the Community of Faith. Through all the opportunities represented in this Winter/Spring brochure, God is extending His hand to us once again that we might find our strength in Him.
