The Day of Pentecost
May 19, 2013

Welcome, Newcomers & Visitors!

  • Greeters wearing a “Greeter” name badge will be waiting outside on the lawn  after services to direct you to answers toward any questions!
  • Please write your address and phone number in the black book as it travels your row, so we can send you a letter of welcome.
  • Remember, you don't  have to be a member to get involved!  Ask about volunteer and education opportunities at the Newcomer or Parish Life Table. Sign up for a nametag at the Parish Life Table, and it will be waiting for you next Sunday.  Pick  up a free sticker for the back of your  car on the lawn today!

The Rector’s Roundtable is an informal introduction to St. Peter’s, usually held on the last Sunday of each month between the Sunday morning services.  Because of Memorial Day weekend, May’s Roundtable will be moved to June 9.  Also, there will be no Rector’s roundtable in July.

Get Connected!
St. Peter’s is an exciting, welcoming place!  Get involved through on of our many ministries and fellowship events.  Sunday is a great time to visit with others on the lawn over a cup of coffee or lemonade.   Greeters are our smiling faces to introduce you to others. Contact Tina Campbell at tcampbell@saint-peters.net or 701-0664, ext. 110, if you’d like to explore all the possibilities.

Parish News
The Church and Offices are closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this coming week for the annual off-site staff retreat.  There will be a 12:10 Eucharist and healing service on Wednesday, May 22, with Father Gil Crosby celebrating.

Volunteers are needed to help serve the hot midday lunch to homeless neighbors at First Presbyterian Church downtown on Sunday, June 2.  ECHO will provide all the food, so out St. Peter’s team will just set, serve and clean up!  It’s a great opportunity for family, Acts groups and prayer groups to serve together.  Contact Margaret Anne Clark at willae@embarqmail.com.

Seminarians Next Sunday
It’s summer, and at St. Peter’s that means—summer seminary fellows! Three young men from three seminaries will be introduced to the parish at next Sunday’s services.  We know you’ll make them welcome, as you do every year!  In addition, Evan Simington will be working in the parish and Chris Jones, one of our seminarians from last year will also be finishing some requirements here.  It will be great to have Evan and Chris return!

The Ordination to the Diaconate of  former fellows and new seminary graduates Aaron Harrison and Joe Ananias will be held at St. Peter’s on Saturday, June 8.  All the parish is invited to the service and reception afterward. Please plan to come and support them as they begin their life in ministry!

Our new Director of Youth & Families, Matt Wilkins, will officially start on staff on June 3.  We welcome Matt and his wife, Liz, to Tallahassee and to St. Peter’s!  Father Andrew Rowell will then become the Associate Rector for Evangelism and Discipleship.

The Furnishings Catalog for the new church is now online: http://www.steppingoutinfaith.net/catalog.html.   Group gifts are encouraged, if the price tag is high for one family.  Pass the hat at your Acts or Accountability group and buy a chair together.

Fine Arts Camp 2013
The registration form is now online! Offered to rising kindergarten students through rising 6th graders, Fine Arts Camp provides a great way to expose and encourage your child to worship God through multiple fine art venues. Space and class size is limited so don't wait to turn in your forms! Early registration and sibling discounts are available through May. Contact Debbie Garven with any questions at Debgarven@gmail.com

All Saints’ Day Banners bearing the names of our beloved “saints departed”, still hang in the vesting area downstairs in the church.  If you intended to keep your loved one’s banner, please pick it up there, or call the Parish Office by June 1.  Some of the materials will be re-used this summer, if the banner remains unclaimed.

Free Trip to Greece!
No passport required!  Adult and teen volunteers are greatly desired for summer VBS fun.  Help transform the church property into ancient Athens—or help prepare snacks in the kitchen—or lead games— or be a loving pair of arms for a lonely little one.  There’s a place for every person and every gift!  Contact Dana Standridge at dana@saint-peters.net.

Ready—Set—SMILE!
We’re hoping to self-publish an updated pictorial directory this year!  Everyone in the parish is encouraged to submit a recent digital photo to anne@saint-peters.net. Or, photos will be snapped on the lawn after the 9:00 Sunday morning service—no appointments, nothing to purchase—so simple!   Meet photographer John Schmidt by the fountain between the morning services.

Flooding in Uganda
The Diocese of South Rwenzori , whose Bishop provided St. Peter’s with structural oversight after leaving the Episcopal Church in 2005, was ravaged by flooding on May 1 after a long, heavy downpour of rain. Every river in the Diocese burst its banks and wrought destruction on roads, gardens, and homes. Five people have been confirmed dead and 3,000 people have been displaced from their homes. Bishop Jackson Nzerebende is appealing for support.  “There is an immediate need for food, tents, bedding, household items, water tanks, drugs, and three standby ambulances,” he said. Bishop Nzerebende further emphasized their long-term needs in three areas: (1) rebuilding infrastructure, (2) rebuilding homes, and (3) intensive rehabilitation of those affected by the floods.  “Our long-term needs,” he said, “are building materials, road construction materials, electrical poles and wires, rebuilding of five bridges, counselors, prayer, and an intensive rehabilitation program.” In the USA, the Anglican Relief and Development Fund is receiving online tax-deductible contributions towards relief efforts. A link is available on the St. Peter's website.

VBS Registration
Summer is coming FAST, and Vacation Bible School registration is open! We are headed to ancient Athens this year to immerse ourselves in the time of the Apostle Paul. Imagine leaving a life of power and privilege to face angry mobs, painful imprisonment and chain-breaking earthquakes - all to spread the life-changing truth about God's love.  Learn the jaw-dropping  story - straight from Paul himself!  Go to http://www.saint-peters.net/vbs for additional info, to register your child, and to volunteer to help!

Pray for:

Parishioners, Relatives, and Friends*

Especially as construction begins, continue to pray HARD for the St. Peter's building process, that we may stay in God's will.

Almighty God and Father, the heavens cannot contain you, yet you are pleased to dwell in our midst; accept our desire to build for you a dwelling place to the honor of your Name and for the benefit of your People.

We have journeyed into the wilderness, here to build our future on the solid ground of the Gospel of Christ. We now depend on your guidance, inspiration and gracein building a church that will be a symbol of your Presence, a vessel of your Truth, and a witness to your Love from generation to generation.

Bless our efforts, O Lord! Through them, may those who have ears to hear know the Good News of Jesus Christ our Savior. Let all people called into this holy fellowship find a place of spiritual rest and growth.

In deep commitment, we offer this our prayer to you, who as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, live and reign for ever and ever. AMEN.
